Certificated Locations and Certificated Sites are small sites for up to 5 caravans or motorhomes. CL's are licensed by the
Caravan Club and CS's by the Camping and Caravanning Club. Certificated Sites accept tents whereas CL's take
caravans and motor homes only (although pup tents are often allowed at the discretion of the site owner).
You need to be a member of the relevant Club to stay on one of these small sites, however, their annual membership fees are so
reasonable, and give access to such a wide range of benefits, that you will quickly re-coup the fee. You can often join
the Club at your chosen CL or CS.
Pitch fees vary but start from around £5.00 up to around £15.00 per night. Average fees for caravans are around £8.00 - £10.00 per
night, with tents costing slightly less, so it's a very cost-effective way of camping and caravanning in some of the UK's most beautiful locations.
Some sites have only basic facilities – a minimum is fresh water, chemical toilet disposal and waste disposal, whilst
others have hook-ups, showers, flushing toilets and hardstanding and other facilities usually associated with larger sites.
These wonderful sites remind us what camping is all about, and can be found in a host of unusual places - on the coast,
tucked away in a farmer’s field, behind a pub, in the grounds of a stately home, or on the edge of a town or city. On
farm-based sites you can often see the animals and buy produce. Unfailingly, all owners offer a warm welcome, personal
attention and invaluable information about the area.
