We, the Southerton family - Joy, Mike and our 13 year old daughter Tricia, run Pantglas Farm Caravan Park, which we bought
in February 2006, so we are now into our third season.
We had quite a job on our hands when we took over; the previous owner was somewhat feared, as he had a habit of “pouncing”
on visitors if they dared enjoy themselves or make a bit of noise. According to legend, he would lurk quietly behind bushes,
then jump out unexpectedly to tell the children off for doing what children do naturally. He would make them sit in the
club house all evening, not moving off their chairs – what great holiday they must have had??
Now the children have got to know us well and have jokes with us. They still try to get away with more than one at a time
on the trampoline (strictly forbidden by the last owner, of course!) but as it’s a safety issue, we keep an eye on them and
as soon as we pop our heads round the corner of the club house, off they jump.
Previously, barbeques were not allowed as this constituted a “group gathering”! Happily now this has changed and the
atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Everyone helps each other and if someone has a problem with an awning or tent - no
problem - there is always a smiling face and helping hands to assist.
We’ve made many friends over the past three years, people have warmed to us very quickly and we have some exceptional
visitors who keep coming back. Many have become firm friends whom we visit during our closed winter period for fun weekends
of our own!
Now to tell you a little more about the Park: Pantglas is set in the rolling hills of Pembrokeshire with views down to
Carmarthen Bay and The Gower Peninsula. We are 10 minutes from Oakwood Theme Park, always popular with the teenagers,
and 5 minutes from Folly Farm which is a great day out for all the family. For sunny days, Amroth beach is 4 miles and
the bustling harbour town of Saundersfoot and Tenby are only a short drive away, especially when you get to know all the
short cuts our country lanes have to offer.
We have 14 acres with plenty of green open spaces for children to play football, cricket or what ever takes their fancy,
and we have a fabulous play area which we updated during the winter of 2007-08 with a whizzer, skateboard swing, and swings
for toddlers and older children. This has added to the aerial slide, trampoline, tree house and seesaw that were already
in place.
We are trying to enhance and improve the site without taking away its charm, which hopefully we are doing. Over winter
we’ve worked hard and installed 21 extra hard standing pitches, leaving 13 grass pitches for caravans and large tents that
want electric hook up pitches. We have 49 seasonal pitches and 30 camping pitches, which are served by two spotlessly
clean shower blocks. All pitches are very spacious so you don’t feel like you are thrust upon neighbours when you want a
quiet weekend or holiday. To help our less-abled visitors, the elderly and families with babies, we have installed a brand
new wet room which will make life easier for them all. Electric sockets are provided in the shower blocks at no charge for
campers who like to dry their hair and perhaps use straighteners for that non camping look! Also on offer is an ice pack
service and phone charging service in Reception.
Pantglas has a clubhouse which is open at weekends, and during the week in the main school holidays. It houses a games
room which has machines for all ages to play on and a pool table this is open all day ever day.
Come and visit this lovely park tucked away in the Pembrokeshire countryside, where we promise we will work hard to make
your holiday truly enjoyable and memorable.
